* In de geboorte- en trouw-akte
wordt ze Helena genoemd, maar in het testament van haar vader Hubertus
wordt ze Helena Maria genoemd en ondertekent ze met:
Huisgenoot:
Johannes Franciscus Otter (neef) * 2-4-1873 Amsterdam ; vertrekt 1 jan. 1890
Wonen eerst in wijk B nr. 60 (Hand naar
Leiden) ; hier overlijdt Johanna Kaatee 20-12-1875,
daarna wijk B nr. 54 (Noorddammerlaan 8) ; in 1890
stichtte J.J.v/d Bijl hier een kleerblekerij.
Alle kinderen zijn in Nieuwer Amstel (Bovenkerk) geboren.
Het gezin verhuisde 4 jan. 1895 naar Amsterdam (volgens bevolkingsregister Nieuwer Amstel)
De kleindochter van Martina Johanna vertelde:
“According to my grandmother, Willem met Helena
while ice- skating.
Helena was lame in one leg and pushed a little sled in front of her in
order to be able to skate.
Grandma said there were little stands along the canal where you could buy hot
chocolate.
Willem asked Helena if he could buy her one, and that's how they met”.
“Grandma said Helena was very sweet natured, frail and a very devout Catholic”.
“Johanna Martina, born on 20
September 1875, in Nieuwer-Amstel, North Holland, a twin.
I don't know when she died,
but it was probably between the ages of 28 and 30.
According to my grandmother she was born with a lame leg (like her mother, Helena)
and when she matured she
suffered from epileptic seizures.
Apparently during one of these attacks she fell and stabbed
herself with a pair of scissors (or a paring knife)
that she was carrying. My grandparents were going together
around 1903-1904 and my grandmother said
Grandpa was uncomfortable taking Johanna out with them, for fear
she would have a seizure -
so that is how I figured her age at death.”
